Listen in as the co-CEOs of the life sciences company Eppendorf, Eva van Pelt and Peter Fruhstorfer, talk as the company's 75th anniversary year comes to a close. They discuss how the company has evolved since its establishment in 1945 and the critical elements that have led to its success. The novel coronavirus pandemic has unfortunately scuttled many of Eppendorf's plans to mark this important milestone, but that has not stopped the company from both celebrating the anniversary and helping the scientific community to fight the disease. Eva and Peter provide a unique insight into Eppendorf's past, present, and future, and how it has grown to become a leader by supporting the life science community.

Eva van Pelt

Ms. van Pelt has been a member of the Eppendorf AG Management Board since 2017, responsible for Sales, Marketing and Service, and Co-CEO of the Management Board since December 2019. Prior to that she worked in management positions for Leica Microsystems, Hitachi Data Systems, Accenture and held various positions at Siemens particularly in the life sciences division. Since 2019, she has been a member of the Board of Directors of the German-Dutch Chamber of Commerce and in 2020, she became a member of the Board of Directors of ALDA (Analytical, Life Science & Diagnostics Association) and FidAR (Women on Supervisory Boards) e.V. She holds a Master of Economy degree from the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich, Germany.

Peter Fruhstorfer, Ph.D.

Dr. Fruhstorfer has been Co-CEO of the Management Board of Eppendorf AG since December 2019 and is also responsible for the business portfolio He has been head of the Sample Handling Division since 2018. He held various management positions at Thermo Fisher Scientific in the Netherlands, the FEI Company in the USA, and in various countries for the Carl Zeiss Group. He has a doctorate in chemistry from the technical University Munich, Germany.

Sean Sanders, Ph.D.

Science/AAAS
Washington, DC

Dr. Sanders did his undergraduate training at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, and his Ph.D. at the University of Cambridge, UK, supported by the Wellcome Trust. Following postdoctoral training at the National Institutes of Health and Georgetown University, Dr. Sanders joined TranXenoGen, a startup biotechnology company in Massachusetts working on avian transgenics. Pursuing his parallel passion for writing and editing, Dr. Sanders joined BioTechniques as an editor, before joining Science/AAAS in 2006. Currently, Dr. Sanders is the Director and Senior Editor for Custom Publishing for the journal Science and Program Director for Outreach.
